Show Me the Way

Every night I say a prayer in the hope that there’s a heaven
And every day I’m more confused as the saints turn into sinners
All the heroes and legends I knew as a child have fallen to idols of clay
And I feel this empty place inside so afraid that I’ve lost my faith

I’d wager to bet that most everybody has been there before – Rock Bottom.

For you it may have been because of a divorce, a death of someone close to you, a loss of a great job, a drug addiction, a mental or physical illness, or perhaps just a series of unfortunate events.

It’s the lowest of the low, and if you haven’t seen it yet in this life then I suppose you are lucky.

For those who have been there before, you may have prayed or even cried out to God to help you. The story like was told in the last post “A Diamond in the Flesh” would have been just the ticket to get you up off the floor and give you hope and courage – knowing that you now have the clarity of vision to move back on up and out of your dark place.

And as I slowly drift to sleep, for a moment dreams are sacred
I close my eyes and know there’s peace in a world so filled with hatred
That I wake up each morning and turn on the news to find we’ve so far to go
And I keep on hoping for a sign, so afraid that I just won’t know

~STYX

But let’s say that you’re like most people, and the sky didn’t open up and the light didn’t come pouring down from the Heavens and God/Jesus/Angels didn’t take you out of your body to enlighten you. You had to struggle and strife to get back on your feet alone or only with the help of the people who are walking in the life with you. How easy it would have been if only….

Show me the way, show me the way
Take me tonight to the river
And wash my illusions away

~STYX

So why does that happen for some people (instant enlightenment) and not for others? That is the question I aim to answer in this article.

In the study of NDE’s, OBE’s, and STE’s (Near Death Experiences, Out of Body Experiences, and other Spiritually Transformative Events) many people have asked their Other-Dimensional Team (that’s what I call God/Guides/Angels/etc) (See “Our Spirit Assistants” for a story about a person who saw them in action) that very question. Why weren’t you there for me when (insert bad thing here) happened? Where were you? Couldn’t you have at least given me a sign?

The answer they receive is always the same. I was always there with you. I was hurting for you. I did give you a sign [and you just couldn’t perceive it].

Many people have said that they wanted to have an NDE even though it would mean being on the brink of death just in order to have their questions answered or to feel the love and/or guidance their Other-Dimensional Team has for them.

Show me the way, Show me the way
Take me tonight to the mountain
And wash my confusion away
And if I feel light, should I believe?
Tell me how will I know?

~STYX

Are people who seem to spontaneously have these experiences so much closer to God or Heaven that they deserve to have this benefit while others struggle for their answers. I think not.

Our Other-Dimensional Teams on the other side of the veil have a bit of a different perspective on our lives than we do. They see us struggling (for example) to climb up a rope to reach enlightenment at the top. Sometimes we falter and we lose ground and we might be swinging by the very last few inches of that rope.

But I believe that our Helpers are able to look just a little ways up the timeline of our lives – just far enough to see if we are going to be able to pull ourselves back into the upward track or if we are going to fall.

Take me tonight to the river
And wash my illusions away
Show me the way, show me the way
Give me the strength and the courage
To believe that I’ll get there someday

~STYX

If they know that we’re not going to make it on our own, and it is not our soul’s wish to falter or die just yet (See “Why Do Some People Die Young?“) then they will intervene in some way.

“Intervention” might not always be what you would think, though. I think in most cases it’s more of an “Earthly” type of intervention like a car wreck that lays us on our back for eight months to think about it. And so I think that the type of intervention where people have these great visions or spontaneous out of body experiences are more of the rare kind. Did an accident or injury of any sort ever end up helping you to get any of the answers you were looking for? Well, then you might have had just that type of intervention.

Our soul grows and experiences more if we are able to learn and grow through our struggles and life experiences than it does if we have a moment of sudden enlightenment. So in the long run – it’s better that way.

In addition to that, I think that some people plan to have these experiences as part of their Life Plan (See “Does Our Soul Plan Life’s Challenges Before Birth?“), so it was planned all along.

I know it’s probably not much consolation, but if you have not had one of these enlightening experiences you may be one of the “lucky” ones. It means that you were able to get through it on your own – without obvious assistance from your Other Dimensional Team. Congratulations!
